Missing: Human Target

Posted on June 6, 2012

I am a geek, it is true. I have, at times, been a comic book fan. So when Fox started showing ads for a TV show based on a comic book, I had to check it out.

We Watched It

Christopher Chance (Mark Valley) is a former assassin, turned “security specialist.” In the comic books, he took the client’s identity. In the show, he integrated himself fully into the life of his client and made himself a “human target.”

Laverne Winston (Chi McBride), a former SFPD detective, acted as Chance’s business partner/manager.

Guerrero (Jackie Earle Haley) is also a former assassin, trained by the same people who trained Chance. A highly intelligent, vicious, and deadly killer, Guerrero prefers straight-ahead solutions.

Ilsa Pucci (Indira Varma) becomes the agency’s benefactor in the second season.

While the show mostly ran one-off episodes, there were some over-arching story arcs.

Alas, Human Target only ran 2 seasons. The characters were warm and enjoyable. The action was silly and campy, as befit something inspired by a comic book. All in all, it was a fun show that never really found an audience.

I’ve got nothing critical to say about Human Target. It had flaws, but it’s gone now.

Chances are (see what I did there?), if you read this blog, you’ve got a long list of shows that were cancelled too soon. Firefly, for example. Go ahead and share some in the comments.
